Description

Popular among children, radishes grow best in cooler months. They can be sown anywhere throughout the garden and are useful to seed with other root vegetables that take longer to mature. Greens are also edible.

Planting

Radishes are frost hardy. In mild climates radishes can be seeded all year long. In hotter climates, stick to planting in cooler months.

Care

Thin when plants are 1 inch high. Water evenly as too little watering results in tough radishes. After thinning, fertilize with 5-10-10 or equivalent fertilizer.

Harvest

Pick radishes as soon as they reach ample size otherwise they become tough and pithy.

Hint

Radish sprouts are much like cress with a tangy, peppery flavor.

Nutrional Value

Good source of Vitamin C.
