Long-time Favorite, Productive-85 Days

Description

Sweet Corn is among the most popular home grown vegetables. Nothing equals the taste of freshly picked and cooked sweet corn. The three essential ingredients for success are adequate space, water and heat. Golden Beauty is a standard, early season hybrid maturing in 75 or more days. Ears are 7 to 8 inches with 10-14 rows of kernels. This variety, “Golden Beauty Hybrid” is an All-America Selections Winner meaning that it has been tested by a network of independent judges who determined that its garden performance was superior.

Planting

Corn is a warm season crop. Pollination is essential for success so corn needs to be planted in a block of three rows of 12-24 plants (rather than one row). Make successive plantings every two weeks to prolong harvest.

Care

Thin when plants are 6 inches high. Water frequently by soaking the soil, at least 1 inch per week. Apply a balanced fertilizer during the growing season in a furrow 6 inches away from plants. Mulching helps to keep soil moist.

Harvest

Harvest when ears are completely filled out and a pierced kernel shows a milky liquid.

Hint

Sweet Corn loses sweetness soon after harvest. Eat or preserve immediately after picking.
