Description
This popular, vining cucumber can be allowed to spread on the ground or trained upward on a trellis where it takes little ground space and produces more attractive fruits. Fruit is dark green, 7-8 inches long and 2 ? inches in diameter. A popular variety for slicing. This variety, “Straight 8” is an All-America Selections Winner meaning that it has been tested by a network of independent judges who determined that its garden performance was superior.

Planting
Cucumbers are a warm weather crop with a short growing season. Add generous amounts of organic matter to the soil prior to planting. Seed should be planted in warm soil when air temperatures have reached 65-70 degrees F.
Care
Thin when plants are 3-4 inches high. Set up trellis to support vines. Keep soil evenly moist. Mulch and fertilize 4 weeks after planting with a 5-10-10 or similar fertilizer.
Harvest
Harvest when fruits are 6-8 inches long. Keep fruits picked to encourage formation of new fruits.
Hint
For freshness and crispness do not peel or slice until ready to use.
