Cilantro is also known as Chinese Parsley and as Coriander in seed form. It has delicate, fernlike foliage and is popular in many Mexican, Asian and Mediterranean dishes and sauces. Seeds (Coriander) are used in confections and curry dishes. Plants grow up to 24 inches high.

Cilantro is a cool season plant. It needs sun, average moisture and well drained soil. Plant seeds each month for a steady supply of fresh herbs. Sow seed in early spring or fall.


Thin when plants are 2 inches tall. Provide an even supply of water. Mulch regularly. Fertilize lightly when plants are 6 inches with 5-10-10 fertilizer.


Cut leaves as needed. Seeds may be harvested by cutting the stem and placing it upside down in a paper bag, letting the bag catch the seeds as they fall.
