Sweet Corn is among the most popular home grown vegetables. Nothing equals the taste of freshly picked and cooked sweet corn. The three essential ingredients for success are adequate space, water and heat. Bi-Licious is an excellent mid-season hybrid with bi-colored kernels maturing in 75 or more days. Ears are 8 1/2 inches with 16 rows of kernels.

Planting
Corn is a warm season crop. Pollination is essential for success so corn needs to be planted in a block of three rows of 12-24 plants (rather than one row). Make a successive plantings every two weeks to prolong harvest.
Care
Thin when plants are 6 inches high. Water frequently by soaking the soil, at least 1 inch per week. Apply a balanced fertilizer during the growing season in a furrow 6 inches away from plants. Mulching helps to keep soil moist.
Harvest
Harvest when ears are completely filled out and a pierced kernel shows a milky liquid.
Hint
Sweet Corn loses sweetness soon after harvest. Eat or preserve immediately after picking.
