New Millennia Platinum™
Description
Tall Fescue is a perennial, cool season bunch grass. It is native to Europe but has become naturalized in the United States since its introduction in the 1800s. It was, and still is, used as a pasture grass until varieties were
developed in the 1980s that were more suitable for use as a turfgrass, hence the name “Turf-Type Tall Fescue.”
Over the years new varieties have been developed and introduced that exhibit excellent turf quality. While tall fescues do not reach the level of turf quality as Kentucky Bluegrass they are easier to establish and maintain, have greater
heat and drought tol-erance, and are better adapted to a wide range of climates from Canada to Florida and across midwestern and southern states to the west coast. Compared to other cool season grasses (Kentucky Bluegrass, Perennial
Ryegrass, Fine Fescue) Tall Fescues have a coarser leaf blade and a deeper, more extensive root system (2-3 feet deep).
There are well over 100 varieties of Turf-Type Tall Fescues with various traits and characteristics. The varieties chosen for this blend have been tested, highly rated, and exhibit exceptional overall turf quality with disease and
drought resistance. It meets our platinum standards of superiority for variety quality and seed purity. Learn More. These new varieties also exhibit rhizomes or lateral spread characteristics that improve density and recovery from
damage.
