Improved Dwarf Tall Fescue


Simply, one of the best cool season grasses available. An outstanding tall fescue variety that excells in all major turfgrass characteristics. Because of its outstanding characteristics it is very popular among Southern California sod producers. Avenger is a newly developed tall fescue cultivar that exhibits improved resistance to diseases with a compact growth habit and finer texture than most other tall fescue varieties.

Avenger is also excellent in mixtures with Kentucky Bluegrass with Avenger at 80-90% of the mixture.

Seeding Rates

New turf: 10 pounds per 1000 square feet or 400 pounds per acre.
Overseeding: 6 to 10 pounds per 1000 square feet or 250-400 pounds per acre.


Emergence: 10-14 days.
First mowing: aproximately 30 days (may be longer in cool season).
First limited use: aproximately 50 days.

Adaptability & Care

Climatic Conditions: All (except high altitude)
Soils: All soil types
pH range: Prefers pH range from 5.5 to 6.5, tolerates 4.7 to 8.5.
Fertilization: Avenger requires two applications of balanced fertilizer per year to maintain a luxurious green turf without excess growth. Slow release fertilizers are recommended.
Mowing height: 1 to 1-1/2 inches, can be increased to 2 to 3 inches in hot weather to reduce water usage.
