Snap beans, also known as garden, green or string beans are grown for their pods. Bush snap beans are popular because they mature earlier and do not require trellising. Beans are a warm season crop and are sensitive to frost and cold soil temperatures. Plant your first crop when the soil is warm. For prolonged harvest, stagger your plantings every 2-3 weeks.
Thin when plants are 2 inches high. Water frequently by soaking the soil. Apply 5-10-10 fertilizer every 4 weeks in a furrow 6 inches away from plants. Mulching helps to keep soil moist.
Harvest when pods are young and tender, before the seeds inside fully develop. Pick pods frequently to keep plants productive.
Rotate the location of beans from year to year to discourage disease.
