A significant development in seeded bermudagrass, Sahara is the first improved seeded propagated variety to be developed exclusively for turf. It exhibits significant improvements in density, texture and color over common bermudagrass. Sahara is the product of over 20 years of turfgrass research. It was developed at New Mexico State University by Dr. Arden Baltensperger. Sahara has been studied and evaluated in worldwide trials and research programs since 1986. It was first introduced for commercial use in 1989.

A combination of overall turf appearance with improved durability make Sahara an ideal choice for: Sportsfields, Parks/Playgrounds, Cemetaries, GolfCourses - fairways & roughs, Home Lawns, Erosion Control. Sahara is ideal in mixtures with Perennial Ryegrass such as “Pro Sportsfield Elite”.

New turf: 4 pounds per 1000 square feet or 175 pounds per acre.
Overseeding: 1 to 2 pounds per 1000 square feet or 45-90 pounds per acre.

Emergence: 10-14 days. Germination delayed if soil temperatures are below 65° F.
First mowing: Approximately 21 days (may be longer in cool season). No special mower is required.
First limited use: One week after first mowing depending upon rate of establishment.

Climatic Conditions: Temperate, sub-tropical and tropical climate zones.
Soils: All types
pH range: Adapted to an extremely broad pH range.
Salinity: Can tolerate high saline conditions, however during establishment soil moisture drainage is very important.
Fertilization: 1 pound of actual nitrogen per 1000 sq feet per month during the growing season.
Mowing height: 1/2 to 1-1/2 inches. Best at 3/4 inch or greater.
