Grande II is a recent improvement of the original Grande, among the first improved tall fescue varieties that exhibit rhizomes. A rhizome is a specialized stem that acts as an energy storage organ and means of propagation. In space plantings Grande has been shown to produce rhizomes on up to 67% of the plants. Rhizomes have the ability to more quickly "knit" the turf together as well as repair thin and bare spots.

Plant Variety Protection Certificate (PVP) #9500126. Grande, developed by Dr. Leah Brilman, was granted a PVP based, among other things, on its unique ability to produce rhizomes.

New turf: 10 pounds per 1000 square feet or 400 pounds per acre.
Overseeding: 6-10 pounds per 1000 square feet or 250-400 pounds per acre.

Emergence: 10-14 days
First mowing: Approximately 30 days (may be longer in cool season)
First limited use: Approximately 50 days.

Climatic Conditions: Adapts well to all climate conditions (except high altitude).
Soils: All soil types.
pH range: prefers 5.5 to 6.5 but tolerates 4.7 to 8.5
Fertilization: Requires two applications of balanced fertilizer per year to maintain a luxurious green turf without excess growth. Slow release fertilizers are recommended.
Mowing height: 1to 1.5 inches can be increased to 2-3 inches in hot weather to reduce water usage.

"Grande II" Tall Fescue is a distinct variety of tall fescue protected under the U.S. Plant Variety Protection Act. Available in certified and sod grades.
